Surgical Patient Selection Criteria

In people at the age of 18 years or over;

– Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 40, or between 35 and 40 when there is a comorbid disease,

– Presence of long-lasting obesity,

– Non-presence of hormonal disorders,

– Previous failure in weight-loss,

– Not being addicted to alcohol and drugs.

In people at the age of 12-17 years or over;

Since statistically more than 80% of obese adolescents aged 12–17 years will become obese adults, some medical centers offer surgery to this age group under in certain conditions.

These conditions are as follows:

– Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 50, or greater than 40 when there are comorbid diseases,

– Completed skeletal development,

– The level of consciousness adequate to understand and get adapted to the procedure,

– A supportive family.
